There are no cars on the list with a VIN lower
than 149789. This car stands alone as the only car delivered
to Clairpointe on the earliest date recorded on the list - 10/17. It was a full week until the second car was delivered on 10/24. I suspect this
was a "pilot car" of sorts used as a test run for the finishing process. It may have also been a prototype. I have no knowledge of what happened to
this car.

There
are no VINs on the NASCAR list that fall between the first run of 1 VIN and the second run of 10 VINs. There is
one VIN in this run that does not show up on the NASCAR list. I have no information on this car. It would be easy
to confuse this run of 9 consecutive VINs with the run of 9 cars delivered between 10/24 and 11/3 but the VINs just don't
match up.

DISCUSSION/HYPOTHETICAL
SOLUTIONS
There
are no cars on the NASCAR list that fall between runs #2 and #3. In this run are two VINs that show up twice on the
list. Also in this run are two VINs that appear to be missing. The logical, but potentially erroneous, explanation
is that the two duplicated VINs represent cars that were counted twice and the two missing VINs were cars that were not counted
at all. This could have been an intentional correction to a situation where two cars were shipped before their VINs
could be recorded and someone suggested that two present cars be counted twice. Or, it could have been due to any number
of other factors. If we knew how the arrival dates and departure dates were tracked at Clairpointe, a great number of
questions could be answered. One of the two missing VINs has been verified through other sources to be a real Superbird.

There are no
cars on the NASCAR list that fall between run #3 and run #4. Run #4 is fairly straightforward. There is only one
missing VIN. That is, there is only one VIN from this run that does not show up on the NASCAR list. I have no
confirmation of the existence of this car and the digits don't offer any obvious answers as to why this car does not show
up. For now - unknown.

This is where things start to get messy. 158744
is a car that has been confirmed to exist but falls between the runs of numbers defined by the NASCAR list. It
also does not show up on the list. As we will see later, this is the type of car that presents the most
difficulty. Duplicate VINs, Missing VINs and List cars between runs all have plausible explanations.
But, those cars like 158744 open a whole new area of speculation. Also between Run #4 and Run #5
is 160637. This car does show up on the list. Its VIN is suspiciously similar to a missing
VIN nearby - 160687. Inside Run #5 we have four missing VINs and one duplicate VIN. Two
of the missing VINs have been confirmed as actual Superbirds. If 160637 is really an incorrectly recorded
160687 then only one missing VIN in this run is unaccounted for. And that could be offset by the duplicate
- although the numbers 12 and 29 don't seem like logical clerical error material. Adding to the mystery
is the R code and U code variance in the duplicate VIN.

There are no known cars that
fall between Run #5 and Run #6. Inside Run #6 are two missing VINs and one duplicate VIN. The
numbers involved are ripe for mistakes. 558, 558, 585, 588 are the sequences in question. If
you want an experiment in how easy it is to have errors of this type, just read a page of the original NASCAR list out loud
to someone else for them to record on paper. Go back and check your results. Unless
you are annoying careful, there will be errors. The duplicated VIN could account for one of the missing
VINs very easily but I am not sure about the second missing VIN.

DISCUSSION/HYPOTHETICAL
SOLUTIONS
There are no cars
that fall between Run #6 and Run #7. Run #7 is easy in that it has two duplicated VINs and two missing
VINs. The simplest solution is that the two missing cars are the two duplicated cars. We
know that both of the missing cars do in fact exist. The only thing I can't figure out is how 304 and 305
are confused with 322 and 339. Unless this was just a convenience correction of a couple of cars that missed
being recorded. Keep in mind that this correction scenario is a complete fabrication on my part.
I have no evidence that such a scenario ever took place. It is merely a plausible situation given
how best laid plans for perfection are frequently "modified" in real world situations.

DISCUSSION/HYPOTHETICAL SOLUTIONS
There is one
car from the NASCAR list that falls between Run #7 and Run #8. It is car number 163415. It
is very possible that this is missing car number 165415 from Run #10. Additional support for this idea comes from
the arrival and departure dates of the cars with VINs around this one. The dates fit much better with the cars in Run
#10 than with the earlier cars of the 163??? series. Inside Run #8 are two duplicated VINs and four missing VINs.
We know two of the missing VINs represent real Superbirds not on the list. I have no explanation
for the other two missing cars.

There is only one missing VIN in the final run. It has been identified as the factory cheated-up drag
car. It is a true Hemi street configuration Superbird taken from the line and extensively modified to compete in one
of the closer-to-stock classes of drag racing. It was probably not included in the NASCAR list count because it was
never offered for sale to the public as a conventional use vehicle and, therefore, would not meet the NASCAR criteria.

181274 is the highest numeric VIN in the NASCAR list. I have not encountered any cars with a higher
VIN number. With almost 40% of the cars accounted for in some form at some time I believe that, if higher VIN cars did
exist, at least one would have shown up. We can only wait and see.
